Once plotted, the Google Earth file can be exported (KML) and sent to friends and family. Unfortunately much of the Ahnenblatt website is in German, but I managed to find my way around with Google Translate's help. The first time that you run it leave it running for a while as it can take Google Earth time to find the various locations (depends on how many people are in your tree), but it is fascinating to watch your ancestors pop up on the map. Select the Google Earth plugin (Tools/GoogleEarth/Start), set the parameters that you want and then sit back and watch it plot your family onto Google earth Run Ahnenblatt and import a gedcom file (drop down menu File/Open/Gedcom file)ĥ. Download and install the Ahnenblatt Google Earth PluginĤ. Download and install Ahnenblatt (a free german genealogy program)ģ. Some of you might be interested in a (mostly) simple method of mapping BMD's onto Google Earth (I hope links to free programs are ok here ?) ?. I stumbled across the site when searching for the location of Grace's Square which I needed for a family history mapping project. This is my first post so I hope I got the right section on this very interesting forum.
